Providing Informatics Program Development, Management and Support Services
FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SRA International, Inc.
(NYSE: SRX), a leading provider of technology and strategic consulting
services and solutions to government organizations and commercial clients,
today announced it has won a three-year contract with the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide program development, management and
support for the National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI). The
contract, which involves a series of 12 task areas, has an estimated value of
$21 million if all options are exercised.
Public health informatics is the systematic application of information
technology (IT) and computer sciences to public health practice, research and
learning. NCPHI uses public health informatics to ensure that public health
information is disseminated within CDC and other public health organizations,
as appropriate, to support key public health goals.
Under this contract, to be led by SRA Director of Public Health
Informatics Wayne Myers, SRA will provide NCPHI technical, program and
management services across a broad range of initiatives. The goal of the
initiatives - which include program and performance management, enterprise
architecture, information resource governance, communications and
collaboration, applied research and development, and public health program
development and management - is to enhance the availability of health data and
the adoption of public health information standards across the public health
community.
"Public health informatics - including enabling the availability of
timely, quality health data - is critical to the success of a wide range of
public health programs," said SRA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Andrew Friede.
"SRA will draw from core competencies in informatics, IT, public health
program support and strategic consulting to support NCPHI's important
mission."
SRA has specialized expertise in public health informatics and supports
several informatics-related programs for CDC, including BioSense, the
BioIntelligence Center, and the vaccine adverse event reporting system
(VAERS).
